Wild About Whales

Wild about Whales Derby for the Boys & Girls Clubs

Check out the Wild about Whales Derby!

The Boys & Girls club are Wild About Whales

June 18th, 2011      1:30 – 4:30 PM      Esquimalt Gorge Park

For years, Boys & Girls Club’s major fundraising event was Monopoly Madness, a unique gala style function that doubled up as a large, and usually highly competitive, Monopoly Tournament for upwards of 200 guests. This year they are putting the Monopoly game on the shelf for a while to indulge in some equally unique outdoor games. But don’t worry, the competitive spirit of their fundraisers lives on. This June, Boys & Girls Club is inviting Victoria to reach into their pockets, not for houses and hotels, but for little rubber whales!

From now until June 18th, you can ‘adopt’ these whales for $5 each through the Boys & Girls Club (or purchase a whole Pod Pack of six whales for $25). Each ticket you buy will have a number that corresponds to a whale that will be set loose on the Gorge waterway in the race of its life! The actual derby will take place at 3 PM on June 18th and will coincide with a large, family event in the Esquimalt Gorge Park, next to where the race will take place.

Come a little early (the event starts at 1:30 PM) to cheer on your whale and soak up the festival atmosphere, try some delicious hot food from the concession and take a ride on a voyageur canoe. Younger visitors can take part in lots of whale themed activities, face-painting and inflatables to keep them occupied until the race begins. And did I mention the event is free?

All the proceeds from this event support important after school and other recreational programs run by the Boys & Girls Club. A local event that supports the local community! So please call Boys & Girls Clubs to adopt some whales. Then bring the whole family down to the park for a ‘fin-filled’ day and see if your whale has what it takes to win you one of the awesome prizes.
