Victoria Hotel Chain Remembers Remembrance Day

VICTORIA, B.C. For every guest wearing a poppy on November 11, 2009 and checking into an Accent Inns property, a $5 donation will be made to the Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon Command’s Poppy Campaign.

In addition to these donations, Accent Inns will also be offering a special “Remembrance Day” rate at Accent Inns properties throughout BC for all active and retired Canadian Forces personnel, starting November 10 through November 15, 2009. In Victoria, Kelowna and Kamloops book for CDN $79 a night. In Richmond, book for CDN $85 a night and in Burnaby, book for CDN $109 a night.

“Accent Inns wants to recognize the great sacrifices made by our fallen heroes, veterans and active personnel as well as the incredible work that Royal Canadian Legion does in our communities,” says Mandy Farmer, CEO of Accent Inns.

The poppy is a global symbol for remembrance of those who died before us in order to provide us with the freedoms we enjoy today. The poppy was one of the only things to survive in Flanders Field, one of the main sites during the First World War. It brought a sense of life, hope and reassurance to the soldiers that were still fighting. The poppy is now worn every November to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives during war as well as to honour those who still serve in our Forces today. Remembrance Day is observed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the day in 1918 when the guns fell silent, marking the end of the First World War.

“As a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Remembrance Day has such a significant meaning for me personally,” says John Espley, Business Development Manager of Accent Inns. “At Accent Inns we see all veterans and active service personnel as an integral part of our community as well as the larger world that we all live within. As a company we are proud to stand behind these men and women and to honour them in our own small way.”

The “Remembrance Day” rate is per night for single or double occupancy and is subject to availability and applicable taxes.
