We’re Hiring! Glenburn Soda Fountain in Burnaby Heights is seeking a Closing Manager. This position is focussed equally on managing staff as it is in providing excellent customer service. Job Description – Performing all soda jerk tasks including making our entire menu of ice cream treats, taking orders and making change, customer service, cleaning tasks as necessary, restocking inventory – Supervising closing crew – Being a confident team leader, contributing to a fun, enjoyable workplace – Supervising and jumping in on all closing tasks: dishes, sweeping and mopping – all staff clean! – Performing on-going training with our crew on customer service and menu changes and improvements – Checking in with staff on achievements, areas needing improvement and participating in staff reviews – Working in a fast-paced environment during peak hours (evenings and weekends) and ensuring staff have tasks to do during slower times – Making all customers feel welcome and ensuring that they know that we appreciate them – Learning, knowing and understanding all aspects of our menu – Communicating with owners and helping the business grow and succeed Qualifications – Passion for dessert and interest in our genre – 1940s, soda fountains and ice cream – Minimum 1 year lead, supervisory or management experience, preferably in the food service industry – Positive, outgoing attitude – Enjoys working with youth and the public – Reliability and punctuality – Excellent communicator and eager to learn and lead – Must be able to lift 25lbs regularly – Must be able to stand for long periods of time – Due to nature of work, strength in wrists and arms is critical. Candidates with arm/wrist injuries or limitations will have challenges with this type of work. Schedule/Availability – 30-35 hours a week – Must be available evenings and weekends. Position will start in April. 2. Charlie’s Chocolate Factory

Did you know that a chocolate wonderland is located just ten minutes by car from our lobby? Charlie’s Chocolate Factory is a family-owned business. And they make great chocolate. There are no oompa-loompas here but there is a real-life, fully-functional chocolate fountain. Delish!

3. Old Farmhouse Kitchen

You may be familiar with Avalon Dairy, BC’s favourite organic dairy farm. You may not know that they have their very own restaurant in their home base of Burnaby: Old Farmhouse Kitchen. It’s just a 20-minute drive from our hotel, right by the Fraser River. We recommend staying for lunch, but there’s no shame is just swinging by for some local, organic ice cream. Flavours include classics like chocolate and vanilla, and more interesting options like mountain blueberry or black cherry.

4. The Valley Bakery

A Burnaby classic, this local, award-winning bakery has something for everyone. Once you start gazing at their displays, there’s no way you can just try one thing! They specialize in European-style whipped cream cakes, but there are no bad choices at The Valley Bakery so we encourage you to order whatever speaks to you! (And since it’s only six minutes away by car, you can come back for seconds!)
