InnAid Charitable support takes to the road

Dawn Chubai of City TV & Melinda Jolley of Tartan PR speaking to non-profit representatives

Well, we’ve just finished our second annual Accent Inns – source group Charity in Changing times seminars.  This year we expanded the reach and put on the seminars at our Accent Inn Victoria hotel, Burnaby hotel and for the first time our Kelowna hotel.

The topic was communications and we were so please to have and incredible troupe of travelling experts. These experts, Robin Holden with the Source group, Ross Dunn with Stepforth Web marketing, Melinda Jolley with Tartan PR, were joined by local media representatives at each event. At the Victoria hotel Tanya Smith from CHEK TV put together a great explanation of what they look for in an TV worthy event.  At our Burnaby hotel Dawn Chubai, Host of City TV’s breakfast television, gave an in-depth look in to the world of charitable stories and how to get interest from the media. Jon Manchester, editor from the Kelowna Daily Courier joined us at the Kelowna hotel and gave the group some real insight into how his organization works with non-profits.

Robin holden get's a laugh at the Accent Inn Burnaby

Robin ,from the Source Group and our co-sponsor for these events, did a super job using humor to explain some of the communications issues we must all deal with on a more personal level. Melinda from Tartan PR really delivered many great tips on how to write, plan and present your public and media relations plans.  Ross from Stepforth tackled the large black hole that is the internet. He offered some keys tools for creating and managing a website as well as insights into the latest challenge we all face….social media!

Our presenters did a fantastic job but as a facilitator (John Espley) I was even more excited by the response and engagement from our participants.  The questions came fast and furious and really made all of us work. This was great.  The response from our non-profit friends was that they want more so keep your ears open…..we are already planning for next years series!
