Vancouver Canadians NWL Champions!

Monday, September 10th, 2012

All of us at Accent Inns are so proud of the Vancouver Canadians.

This is a reprint from their Blog with the story of the big finish!

Suddenly, the Vancouver Canadians are making a habit of winning the Northwest League championship. Kellen Sweeney ignited a seven-run eighth inning with a two-run single and Art Charles capped it with a bases-loaded triple Sunday as Vancouver rallied for a 12-9 victory at Boise and its second straight title. SOS Children’s Village Johannesburg

Thursday, August 16th, 2012

New PictureBack in July, Donna Price ( Regional Sales Manager Sports and Groups for Accent Inns)  and a few friends had a special opportunity to visit the SOS Children’s Village, Ennerdale just outside of Johannesburg. This is a look at their trip and experiences….

It was a beautifully kept place for almost 200 children who come from different circumstances (orphaned or lack of family care). They integrate the children in the community in Schooling, projects and prepare the kids to be self sufficient once they leave the village. The children were well taken care of in a home-style setting. In addition to the children, they also have small homes for the retired house mothers or “aunties”. We met a couple of them – one 62 years and one 86 years old. (more…)

For Immediate release

Taking a good look into the mirror

Travelling in British Columbia this summer never looked so good

August  07, 2012, Victoria, BC – Accent Inns’ easy-to-spot, iconic blue roofs haven’t changed, but just about everything beneath them has– from the renovated exteriors, updates to the interiors of all five properties —  and a very cool change in the  brand  image and story.

Now sporting refreshed exteriors in shades of, taupe, grey and green, entrance pillars refinished in natural stone and glass balconies to open up the views, Accent Inns has a warmer, more welcoming West Coast feel and is working harder than ever to live their new “stay local, stay real” tag line.

“As we finished our renovations late last year, we felt it was time to check in and see what our potential customers thought of Accent Inns,” says Mandy Farmer, president of Accent Inns. “The focus group results were shocking. Going by our name and look, many people thought we were an American owned run of the mill chain. For a company that is owned and operated by a BC family, we were heart broken. It was time to become better at telling and living our brand story.” (more…)

Take Me Out To The Ball Game

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

IMG_0474Accent Inns has had the distinct honour of working with the Vancouver Canadians Baseball club for several years now. Now that summer is here (no comments on the weather please) so are the “boys of summer”. Sure, sure it’s often heard that Canadians are hockey people but that’s only true part of the year. It’s time to get out of the arena and enjoy some incredible summertime entertainment. The Vancouver Canadians play at the Scotiabank field at Nat Bailey stadium. The stadium has been around since 1951 and hosting some of the best sports entertainment anywhere in the Pacific Northwest. The Vancouver Canadians are a minor league baseball team located in Vancouver, British Columbia.  The C’s have previously affiliated with the Oakland Athletics between 2000-2010 but have become the Northwest League affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. They are the only Canadian team in the “affiliated” minor leagues.(wikipedia) (more…)

City Opera – Fallujah

Monday, May 7th, 2012

In the world of Not-For-Profits and Arts and Culture it’s great to report that one of the organizations we are proud to work with is getting global attention and incredible support.

City Opera Vancouver’s Board of Directors has announced that the company has been awarded a commissioning grant of $250,000 US from the Annenberg Foundation, in connection with the philanthropic multimedia organization Explore.
This extraordinary sum is believed to be the largest single commissioning grant in Canadian history. The working title: FALLUJAH.

The Annenberg Foundation, a private US-based family foundation, provides funding and support to non-profit organizations around the world. Explore, a signature project of the Annenberg Foundation, developed the concept of the project and presented the commissioning grant to City Opera Vancouver. It is awarded for the creation of a new chamber opera, to be developed over a two-year period. The story is based on the real experiences of US Marine Corps Sergeant Christian Ellis at the Battle of Fallujah in 2004. (more…)

Victoria BC hotel chain CEO Mandy Farmer, multitasking at home

Mandy Farmer multitasking at home

Hot on the heels of my secrets to success blog post, here’s a random smattering of shortcuts and tricks of the trade that I often employ to help me get the most out of my day. Please note some of these are desperate measures and are not to be used daily!

For instance, the first one – Dry Shampoo – should only be used on occasions when you are really pressed for time or just can’t stand the thought of wash, rinse, repeat, blow-dry, style, hairspray routine. Just sprinkle this dry powder on the roots of your hair and voila! No need to shower, but maybe an extra layer of deodorant wouldn’t hurt. (more…)

Terry farmer jumps for joy - Victoria hotel chain, Accent Inns Celebrates 25 years in business

Terry Farmer founder of the BC hotel chain excited over Accent Inns awesome success

Wow, what a year 2011 was for the Accent Inn team.

The year began with us launching the first ever hotel rewards  for Pets, the “Pet Fee Free” card back in March. The response had people  talking about it online from all over North America (not just Canada). Next, one of our Vancouver Airport  team members, Zully, won a Tourism Vancouver award for his service. We went from the excitement for Zully  to  our founder, Terry Farmer, being awarded Tourism Victoria`s first ever Lifetime Member award, which really put a spring in our steps. (more…)

View from Vancouver Island in Winter by John Espley

We want to make sure and protect such views

Our Friends at the Sierra Club of BC have some great “green” gift ideas.

If your holiday tradition includes gift giving, here are some options to help you with your list while also helping the conservation efforts that give back to the wild places and species of B.C.

The holiday season is all about spending time with family. It’s also a great time to connect to the world around you, whether it’s decorating a tree that fills your house with the scent of the forest, celebrating the winter solstice or sledding in the snow.  (more…)
