3rd Annual Fishing Buddies Program Attracts New Anglers

Friday, April 27th, 2012

Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC

The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC (FFSBC) is again recruiting experienced anglers to reveal the pleasures of freshwater fishing to friends, family and colleagues during the third annual Fishing Buddies Sweepstakes. Designed to introduce new anglers to sport fishing, Fishing Buddies also rewards anglers for doing what they love and sharing their fishing knowledge. Participation has grown consistently since the program launched in 2010 and significant growth in participation is expected for the third year.

“When it comes to introducing someone new to fishing, who better than experienced anglers who are passionate about it? They can speak directly to the pleasures of going fishing whether it’s half a day at an urban location or a fishing weekend at a more remote lake,” says FFSBC President Don Peterson. “They know the fish and the fishing spots and can help unravel the mysteries of freshwater fishing for the new angler.”

The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC (FFSBC), the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, Tourism BC and the Angler’s Atlas have joined forces to create the Go Fish BC! Rod Loan Program which will help promote sport fishing in Northwestern BC.

“British Columbia has some of the best fishing and this program enables anyone in the Quesnel, Williams Lake, Prince George or Terrace areas, caught without a fishing rod handy, to try out one of our favorite pastimes,” said Jobs, Tourism and Innovation Minister Pat Bell. “The Go Fish BC! Rod Loan Program is an example of creative collaboration among agencies passionate about what they do and resulting in great outdoor experiences.” (more…)

Pacific Salmon Foundation has great support in Victoria

Pacific Salmon Foundation

Pacific Salmon Foundation

On Saturday I (John Espley) had the privilege of attending the Pacific Salmon Foundations annual gala dinner in Victoria B.C. They hold 10 of these dinners around the province which are not only fundraisers for the organization but also a chance for supporters  from all walks to get together and network. What a huge gathering! Saturday’s dinner, held at the University of Victoria’s Cadboro Commons Conference center, was fabulous and the Victoria dinner committee had outdone themselves on providing a fantastic selection of live and silent auction items.  Thanks to Mike Meneer (VP PSF) for speaking about our joint “Fish for the Future program”. Brain Alexander from Westcoast Resorts did a great job as MC (lots of laughs) with Ward Bond from Island Outfitters really pulling the heart strings as he thanked the volunteers. It was also great to see several old and new friends, there to support the foundation like Larry from Island Fisherman Magazine and the Outdoor Expo.

The Pacific Salmon Foundation is working very hard to protect and preserve our Salmon stocks and the following article demonstrates a good example why and why PSF needs the public’s support. (more…)

Island Fisherman supports Accent Inns' "Fish for the Future"

As the excitement around Accent Inns new Fish for the Future program starts to mount, we are thrilled that one of the most qualified sport and recreational fishing experts would take interest in Accent Inns.  Larry E. Stefanyk, founder and publisher of Island Fisherman Magazine and the Producer of the Vancouver Island Outdoor Adventure Expo wrote a great piece in his last issue of Island Fisherman Magazine. Check out the article in the September issue in the Hook line and thinkers column (love the title larry).

Larry has long been a supporter of both the Freshwater fisheries society of BC and the Pacific Salmon Foundation.
