Terry farmer jumps for joy - Victoria hotel chain, Accent Inns Celebrates 25 years in business

Terry Farmer founder of the BC hotel chain excited over Accent Inns awesome success

Wow, what a year 2011 was for the Accent Inn team.

The year began with us launching the first ever hotel rewards  for Pets, the “Pet Fee Free” card back in March. The response had people  talking about it online from all over North America (not just Canada). Next, one of our Vancouver Airport  team members, Zully, won a Tourism Vancouver award for his service. We went from the excitement for Zully  to  our founder, Terry Farmer, being awarded Tourism Victoria`s first ever Lifetime Member award, which really put a spring in our steps. (more…)

Terry Farmer enjoys `semi-retirement`

On Thursday April 28, 2011 friends, colleagues and supporters gathered at Tourism Victoria’s annual general meeting witnessed Terry Farmer being named this year’s Life Member award recipient. “A successful entrepreneur, tireless volunteer and beloved employer, Terry Farmer, founder of the Accent Inns Hotel Chain, has made British Columbia a better place to live, work and play,” said a long time employee with the locally owned and operated hotel chain and those words were repeated as Dave Cowan, GM of the World Famous Butchart Gardens named Terry farmer as the first ever recipient.

No matter who describes his work ethic – loyal employees of Accent Inns, tourism operators who have enjoyed his vision and expertise, or his family who are following in his management footsteps – they all reply that Terry Farmer is a man who cares deeply about people, his community, the environment, and tourism in this province.

Terry is past president of the B.C. Chamber of Commerce, past director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, founding chair of Pacific Sport National Training Centre-Victoria, and past chair of Tourism Victoria, the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce and the Oak Bay/Greater Victoria Summer Games. Mandy Farmer surprises the team at the Accent Inns Management Christmas Party

Confession: Last Wednesday was the highlight of my career

Our company Christmas party was held last week and, believe it or not, I think it was the highlight of my career. I realize that is saying a whole lot. I’ve been fortunate enough to have been recognized recently for a few professional awards, but last Wednesday night takes the cake.

First, a little history.  The Christmas party I’m talking about is for all of Accent Inns general managers, sales people, everyone who works here at Head Office and the folks that have retired with us.  I organize the party completely because it’s my way of thanking everyone for taking such good care of me throughout the year.   This year I decided it was going to be a surprise, just to keep everyone guessing. Power to play 2010 Accent Inn Dusters

Power to play 2010 Accent Inn Dusters

Several months ago Mandy Farmer, the President of Accent Inns put the word out that she was looking for volunteers to participate in the Power to Play adventure race. The race is in support of the great work done by the Power to Be organization with challenges designed by Anthony Bishop who also designs for the TV shows Survivor and the Amazing race. Always having community spirit and a sense of adventure it didn’t take long for several volunteers to come forth from the Head office staff and so was born the Accent Inn “Dusters”. Top 3 Things a Career Woman Should Do

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Confession: I have an errand boy.

One of my passions is mentoring young, motivated women. They are normally in their 20’s and have an abundance of charisma and ambition.  Without fail, the first question they always ask me is “How do you run a company and have a family? How do you do it all?” With a 2 and a 3 year old at home (and don’t forget that lab retriever) I consider myself a bit of an expert on this.   (more…)
