ACCENT INN - VANCOUVER AIRPORT EVENT INNAID
BOOSTS THE DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES ASSOC
Richmond, BC (March 29, 2006) - On
March 17 and 18, Accent Inns invited the public to support community
living with their annual InnAID program. Accent Inn Vancouver Airport
and Accent Inn Burnaby filled a total of six Developmental Disabilities
Association donation bins. The donations came from Accent Inn staff
and a caring public. A further $385.00 was raised through a barbecue
at the Accent Inns Vancouver Airport location and all funds have
been donated to the DDA to buy urgently needed items. The donations
support Developmental Disabilities Association Residential Care
programs throughout the Lower Mainland.
"This is a great boost for our programs and for our
visibility in the community," says Mary Croke of the Developmental
Disabilities Association. "An important part of our philosophy is
that people in our residential care homes are active participants
in their community and events like this help to build bridges and
generate an understanding of why that is important."
The Developmental Disabilities Association operates
group homes throughout Vancouver and Richmond, providing support
based on the needs of the individual. Residents are supported in
making personal decisions and participating in their community.
"It was a fun and rewarding two days. The Developmental
Disabilities Association volunteers were fantastic and the donations
we received far exceeded what we collected last year which was very
satisfying for us," says Chris Browne, GM, Accent Inns, Vancouver
Airport. "It's very rewarding for our staff to see our contributions
going to such a good cause."
For Accent Inns, participating actively in the community
has always been a way of doing business. This philosophy of community
involvement was the inspiration for InnAID, an initiative that pairs
each of the five Accent Inns properties in Burnaby, Richmond, Kelowna,
Kamloops and Victoria with a mission, homeless shelter or transition
house in their community. Accent Inns donates bedding, towels and
furnishings and staff members gather clothing, household items and
other furnishings to contribute to their partner organization.
"As a family-run business, we're very conscious of
our role in our community and we are determined to do more to help
others improve their quality of life" says Terry Farmer, President
and CEO of Accent Inns. "InnAID has grown in each of our communities
over the past three years. The program builds on a platform of partnership
and participation. By working together we can make a positive difference
in the lives of many people in our communities."
