The land known as Elkington Forest is part of the Malahat First Nation traditional lands.
This land, which had been largely harvested in the preceeding decades, sat at the top of the Malahat overlooking both Victoria and Shawnigan Lake. The trees at Elkington Forest have been allowed to grow back and now represent a mature intact second growth forest.
