Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC
One of the proud partners in the "Fish for The Future" InnAid program
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC is a non-profit organization who works in partnership with the provincial government to deliver the fish stocking program as well as providing conservation fish culture services that support steelhead and sturgeon recovery programs.
Some of their Key objectives are:
- To be recognized as the leader in freshwater wild fish culture and technology
- To play a key role in the conservation and restoration of BC's wild fish populations
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC and its partners stocks approximately 8 million fish and eggs into nearly 900 lakes and streams throughout the province annually as well as providing conservation fish culture services that support steelhead and sturgeon recovery programs. The society's mandate to conserve, restore and enhance BC's freshwater fish resources involves enhancing recreational fisheries, promoting conservation and ethical practices in fishing, supporting the recovery of endangered fish populations and helping to ensure a long term healthy fish resource for the future.
Society personnel work with the Ministry of Environment regional fisheries staff to manage existing and create new fisheries. They also develop programs to inform and educate the public.
Some of their best known public programs are Fishing Buddies and Learn to Fish.
** Did you know that anyone of the age of 16 is required to buy a fishing license in BC and children under the age of 16 are required to fish with a valid license holder.
