Victoria Day is unique to Canada, nowhere else in the world do they celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday. It was first declared the Queen’s official birthday in 1845 and became the public holiday known as Victoria Day after her death in 1901. The day actually celebrates two Queen’s birthdays (Victoria’s actual birthday on May 24th) and Elizabeth II (it is by legislation her official birthday in Canada). It is always celebrated on the Monday prior to May 24th. This year Victoria Day will be on Monday May, 23rd. (more…)

There’s been lots of media attention lately for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge which is really cool, In fact I did that challenge myself (John – editor) We want to make sure though that a hardworking group of volunteers and cyclists from the ALS Cycle of Hope are also given accolades for their efforts to raise awareness, support and research dollars for ALS. Spring 2013 Accent Inns had the pleasure of sponsoring a new stand -up comedy show being produced for APTN by Less Bland Productions. “She Kills Me” was filmed in Victoria BC before a live audience and showcased all female comics with several being first nations. The show was hilarious to watch and we hope everyone enjoys the many episodes expected to air sometime in 2014 on APTN.

When we talk about “experiencing local” we want to take you beyond the usual, the expected and the traditional.
