It’s a matter of opinion

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

A few years ago some friends were planning a trip to the South of France. Some other friends offered a suggestion of a restaurant that was in their words “the best meal we have ever had!” Unfortunately for my friends it was “the worst meal they ever had!” A lot had changed in the three years since their friends had eaten at this restaurant.

These days that is a lot less likely to happen. A person can check the reviews on any hotel, restaurant or attraction anywhere in the world. While this is an amazing tool, it is also important that we keep it in perspective. After all, an online review is simply a matter of opinion. The secret, when reading these reviews is to determine which opinions are valid and reflect your own expectations.

I like to read at least 10 reviews of any hotel that I am planning to visit. I know full well that there will be at least one review among those 10 that is quite negative. After all, of every 10 people I meet, there is always at least one who can find fault with just about anything. Remember when you see the TV ads for toothpaste; it’s always 9 out of 10 dentists that recommend a certain product! ....more about online reviews

TripAdvisor Reviewers Have Done it Again!

Different with logoOct 3, 2012

For Immediate Release

TripAdvisor Reviewers Have Done it Again!

It was pretty special when Accent Inns announced that all five Accent Inn hotels around the province had received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2011. Can you believe they’ve done it again!

Actually their customers have done it with submitting all those wonderful reviews. The little home grown,  local BC hotel chain has received a 2012 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for every one of their 5 locations.

Why did they do so well for reviews? “It is really the awesome team behind the scenes that works so hard to give every  customer a comfortable, fun and relaxing stay. We’ve recently gone through a re-branding process for Accent Inns and when we were taking that hard look at just what makes us special, different, we came to the conclusion that it’s our people. The fun new style you can see online and in our properties is a testament to the wonderfully relaxed and fun way our team members go about their jobs and interact with our guests.” Mandy Farmer, President & CEO Accent Inns. read more on trip advisor reviews

Victoria BC, A Year Round Playground

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

kayakingOne of the wonderful things about Victoria BC is our moderate climate. This means that many of those wonderful outdoor activities that most folks in Canada think are only practical in the summer are actually available to “Victorians” year round.  Golfing is of course one of the more common or well advertised activities. You’ll even find folks golfing over the Christmas and New years holidays. Golfing is only one of many wonderful outdoor activities available in the region. The South Island has some of the most scenic and fun Mountain Biking trails anywhere and you won’t need spiked tires to ride in the winter. Sure you might deal with a little more mud but heh, are you a “real” mountain biker or what? ...read more about off-season activities in Victoria BC

In Love With Tony Bennett

Thursday, August 30th, 2012

music notes

A long time ago I must confess, I was a little bit in love with Tony Bennett and although he is older now, I must also confess that I may still be!

I’ve never been to a concert where the performer received a standing ovation before they actually performed but that’s what happened a few nights ago when Tony Bennett took the stage at the Royal Theatre in Victoria B.C. after a 20 minute performance by his daughter Antonia Bennett.

Many in the audience had grown up with his music and there was no denying the love as Tony reminisced about the early days of his career, telling everybody that he and Rosemary Clooney were the original “American Idols”. He also shared how Bob Hope had given him his stage name – a shortened version of his birth name Anthony Dominick Benedetto. ..read more on Tony Bennett performing in Victoria BC

Taking a good look into the mirror

Travelling in British Columbia this summer never looked so good

August  07, 2012, Victoria, BC – Accent Inns’ easy-to-spot, iconic blue roofs haven’t changed, but just about everything beneath them has– from the renovated exteriors, updates to the interiors of all five properties —  and a very cool change in the  brand  image and story.

Now sporting refreshed exteriors in shades of, taupe, grey and green, entrance pillars refinished in natural stone and glass balconies to open up the views, Accent Inns has a warmer, more welcoming West Coast feel and is working harder than ever to live their new “stay local, stay real” tag line.

“As we finished our renovations late last year, we felt it was time to check in and see what our potential customers thought of Accent Inns,” says Mandy Farmer, president of Accent Inns. “The focus group results were shocking. Going by our name and look, many people thought we were an American owned run of the mill chain. For a company that is owned and operated by a BC family, we were heart broken. It was time to become better at telling and living our brand story.” ...read more on what's changed

How To Eat Breakfast In Your PJs

Tuesday, July 10th, 2012

I have a kitchenFirst of all, I need to make something perfectly clear. I DO NOT COOK! The only reason that I have a kitchen is that it came with the house. It is full of cooking machines that simply confuse me. So, given this information, you may wonder why I am telling you about the kitchenettes at Accent Inns.

Well – I actually like to book a room with a kitchenette when I travel. Not because I am planning to create gourmet meals in my room BUT because I like to have fresh milk for my coffee, yoghurt for my breakfast and occasionally I like to make toast and fry an egg. In fact, I prefer to drink my coffee and eat my breakfast in my room while still in my PJs. ...read more on the advantages of a kitchenette
