Social Media Bootcamps 2013

Thursday, October 17th, 2013

Steve Dotto tech expert, social media camp speaker

Steve Dotto – Tech Expert & World Famous Speaker

Do you need a kick in your…..Social Media?         If you answered yes then you should attend one of the upcoming Social Media Bootcamps travelling around the province. Victoria BC is very lucky as every May brings not only incredible floral displays but the equally visually stimulating Social Media Camp. This has become the largest social media event in Canada! But wait, there’s more…..

The guys behind this great event (Chris & Paul – their country album will be released next summer) have also put together a number of one-day workshops in select cities during the fall.

Anyone and everyone who needs, likes or just has to use Social Media should try to make it to Social Media Camp in May. Of course the organizers realize that there are folks who just can’t attend the big conference because they must attend their mother in-laws’ birthday (been there). Well for all of you they have taken the show on the road and these one day bootcamps will give you access to some of the great knowledge and training that Social Media Camp offers. (more…)

Victoria Hotel Package – Your Solution to the Malahat

Thursday, September 19th, 2013

Winding Road sign represents the malahatOne day last winter I had to make some sales calls in Campbell River and other Northern Vancouver Island communities.  I hit the road out of Victoria at 6:00 am in order to get there at the start of the business day.

My goal to avoid traffic and make good time was immediately challenged by torrential rains. As I crept over the Malahat,  I felt my shoulders rise and my body tense as I struggled with the wind, rain and darkness.  (more…)

Back to School – Travel Without The Kids

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013

back to schoolOK, the children are back in school. Parents are busy dealing with getting all the back to school items their children forgot to mention they needed, sorting out what it is they want in their lunches, counselling their off-spring as they complain about who’s sitting next to them in class or on the  bus and  realizing that they have to re-learn everything they thought they would never need to know,  just so  they can help their kids with homework!

Ah, but you are grandparents or perhaps folks that decided the above path wasn’t for you. Of course you love the little “rug-rats” but whichever category you fall into, this is a very special time for you too.  You’ve had your fun with the grand-kids all summer and now it’s time to focus on you. You’ve dealt with all the lines for the really cool things to see & do but now there are no children to be seen and access to attractions is suddenly easy (and quiet).  This is your time to travel. The End of Summer Vacation and Back to Work Confession

accent inn inbox

What’s your inbox look like after a summer vacation

Without a doubt the worst part about summer vacations is that eventually you have to come back to work. This is coming from a woman who adores her job, loves coming to work on a daily basis, and is eager to get cracking even on Monday mornings… I just don’t like coming back from vacation.
I’m probably one of those people who’d be just fine not taking a vacation as I like my job so that I never feel that I need a break from it. Speaking of breaks, it’s vacations THAT actually seem to break my stride just when I’m on a roll! (more…)

Wineries on Vancouver Island?

Friday, July 19th, 2013

When we talk about “experiencing local”  we want to take you beyond the usual, the expected and the traditional. When visiting Victoria B.C. we highly recommend taking in some of the more well-known attractions or activities such as visiting the Butchart Gardens, have an exhilarating ride with Eagle Wing whale watching tours or perhaps a wonderful kayak day tour with Ocean River Sports.  But then there’s the not so well known… Victoria and Vancouver Island have some award winning, scenic and downright tasty wineries. The Accent Inn Victoria, Open for Business

April 13, 2013

Victoria B.C.

Fire Takes Restaurant But Not Hotel Spirit

This past Thursday night, April 11th, a suspicious fire did irreparable damage to the ABC country restaurant located at the Accent Inn Victoria, 3233 Maple St. Fire is certainly something feared by everyone but even more so when it comes to a large complex like an apartment or hotel. When the call came into the Accent Inn front desk, the staff immediately followed the procedures they had been taught. Calls went out to their management and staff and evacuation procedures quickly began with police and fireman joining to assist. The restaurant being closed, luckily was empty with no staff present there.

People and pets had the opportunity to stay warm in waiting BC Transit Busses. After rooms had been cleared and head-counts taken the hotel staff proceeded to secure rooms at other local hotels for all guests, some of whom were still in their pajamas. (more…)

Helping Elephants Through the Power of Film

Ashley Melsted with the Elephants

Ashley Melsted with the Elephants

Two years ago I met Patricia Sims, a Victoria-based filmmaker that has been investigating the critical issues facing elephants through her two documentaries. Intrigued by her discoveries, I learned that although there are many people working hard to protect these endangered animals, there are many more that know nothing about what is happening to them. I wanted to be part of changing this and so I began to work with her and her team to raise awareness through the power of film and the online community. (more…)
