Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

Sidney Mus Lego ExhibitVictoria BC along with several other jurisdictions puts on a great event every year called “Be A Tourist in your own Hometown”.

Here in British Columbia we are blessed with the most wonderful surroundings which comes with the fact that we can expect many visitors such as relatives, friends and tourists. Have you been walking somewhere in our city and a visitor has come up to you and asked for directions? Are you a front line employee who gets asked for suggestions of things to see? OK, time to do your research and visit some of those great attractions that you haven’t been to in years or perhaps you’ve never been before. The cool thing about this homework is that it’s actually fun! ...read more about being a tourist

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Snowball fight in the West

Westcoast snowball fight, not what you think!

What does a snowball fight look like in Victoria or Vancouver? Well, you get a small group of people, dress the men in funny pants, give them each a bag full of sticks with bent ends and some small dimpled white balls and then release them onto a Golf Course. That’s right! On the West Coast we consider the golf ball a reasonable replacement for a snow ball.

And while we do like to believe that it never snows here, the fact is that it rarely snows and our Golf Courses are open year round. In fact winter golf is often less expensive and less crowded. ...read more about golfing in the winter on the west coast

Remember your pet this Valentines day

Today is Valentines Day. We recently posted an article about how Valentines day can be different for different people. Well this year we think it’s time to share a little “luv” with our four-legged pals (two wings also qualify). As much as we love our wives, girlfriends, husbands and boyfriends, who is it that’s always waiting at the door wagging their tail when you come home? Who is it that curls up on your lap and purrrrs when you stroke their back (ok, careful how you answer that one )? Who’s always there singing or tweeting (the original) a those beautiful notes that brighten your day? Our pet’s, no matter what size, shape or form, are always there for us and we love them! ....read more about "I love My Pet"

Timesavers, Juggling ideas and other secrets

Victoria BC hotel chain CEO Mandy Farmer, multitasking at home

Mandy Farmer multitasking at home

Hot on the heels of my secrets to success blog post, here’s a random smattering of shortcuts and tricks of the trade that I often employ to help me get the most out of my day. Please note some of these are desperate measures and are not to be used daily!

For instance, the first one – Dry Shampoo – should only be used on occasions when you are really pressed for time or just can’t stand the thought of wash, rinse, repeat, blow-dry, style, hairspray routine. Just sprinkle this dry powder on the roots of your hair and voila! No need to shower, but maybe an extra layer of deodorant wouldn’t hurt. ...read more on time saving ideas

What would we do without them?

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012
Plowed road on Vancouver Island BC

Thank heavens for plows

With all the bad weather we have experienced in BC this winter, it’s time to take a moment to recognize the efforts of those people that look after us during the storms.

BC Hydro is a prime example.  Crews work 16 hour shifts during the wind and snow storms to restore power when outages occur.   And while I am sure they would all rather be home safe and sound with their families, they always show up and stay until all power is restored.  They have been especially busy on Vancouver Island and the lower mainland this week as winds gusting up to 100km per hours were downing trees and causing multiple power outages. ..read more about the folks who take care of us
