This Saturday night, December 7th, the annual IEOA (Equipment owners association) truck light parade will head through Victoria BC. From 5:45 pm to 8:30 pm , main streets, side streets and even back streets will be lit up by some of the most colorful collection of vehicles ever seen. Cement trucks, dump trucks, slingers, crane trucks, fire trucks, buses and more will form into a convoy and pass before thousands of local families and visitors before ending up as an incredibly bright display at Western Speedway. The truck owners and companies, their staff, family and friends all come together to pay for and create some incredible displays. These trucks take hours and hours of paid and volunteer time to complete. Every hour that one of these trucks is not “working” that’s money they are not earning for their owners. It’s a huge commitment by all the participants and we thank them so much. With the additional help of a few sponsors (Accent Inns is proud to be one), some great local media support and the generosity of our local municipalities and police departments this event finally comes together. But let’s remember why this started many years ago… to raise awareness and support for those in need. For many years now the Truck light parade has raised 10′s of thousands of pounds of food and $$ for Victoria’s local food banks. (more…)

December 6th will see the “cast and crew” of CHEK TV descend upon the Accent Inn in Victoria BC. Just like Santa’s Elves’ they will be working hard to to prepare and host the 20th annual CHEK Christmas Drive Thru.
You like grabbing a bite or a coffee at your local drive thru so why not make your donations that way too!
Where else will you find TV personalities and volunteers alike “hustling and bustling” around to unload your donations of goods for the Salvation Army. Sold everything in a garage sale?.. no worries cash donations are more than welcome, in fact a Salvation Army kettle will be on hand and it sure looks great to see it when it’s filled with bills!
Making the experience even better you’ll have the Salvation Army band serenading you with Christmas Carols. Rumor has it that this night is so special, Santa himself has scheduled an appearance! (why is it we never see Jim Beatty and Santa at the same time…..could it be..hmmmm?)
Please join us December 6th from 5 – 7pm at the Accent Inn at the corner of Blanshard and Cloverdale and help support those in need!

One day last winter I had to make some sales calls in Campbell River and other Northern Vancouver Island communities. I hit the road out of Victoria at 6:00 am in order to get there at the start of the business day.
My goal to avoid traffic and make good time was immediately challenged by torrential rains. As I crept over the Malahat, I felt my shoulders rise and my body tense as I struggled with the wind, rain and darkness. (more…)
OK, the children are back in school. Parents are busy dealing with getting all the back to school items their children forgot to mention they needed, sorting out what it is they want in their lunches, counselling their off-spring as they complain about who’s sitting next to them in class or on the bus and realizing that they have to re-learn everything they thought they would never need to know, just so they can help their kids with homework!
Ah, but you are grandparents or perhaps folks that decided the above path wasn’t for you. Of course you love the little “rug-rats” but whichever category you fall into, this is a very special time for you too. You’ve had your fun with the grand-kids all summer and now it’s time to focus on you. You’ve dealt with all the lines for the really cool things to see & do but now there are no children to be seen and access to attractions is suddenly easy (and quiet). This is your time to travel. Without a doubt the worst part about summer vacations is that eventually you have to come back to work. This is coming from a woman who adores her job, loves coming to work on a daily basis, and is eager to get cracking even on Monday mornings… I just don’t like coming back from vacation.
I’m probably one of those people who’d be just fine not taking a vacation as I like my job so that I never feel that I need a break from it. Speaking of breaks, it’s vacations THAT actually seem to break my stride just when I’m on a roll! (more…)
Victoria BC, September 9, 2013 – Have you heard about those wildly popular food trucks that use social media to announce when and where they’ll be each day and are then greeted by huge line-ups of hungry customers? Monday September 9th, for only a few hours (11:30am -1:30pm), one of the very cool Ribfest food trucks will set-up in the parking lot of the Accent Inn Victoria (Blanshard & Cloverdale) for a special advance tasting. When we talk about “experiencing local” we want to take you beyond the usual, the expected and the traditional. When visiting Victoria B.C. we highly recommend taking in some of the more well-known attractions or activities such as visiting the Butchart Gardens, have an exhilarating ride with Eagle Wing whale watching tours or perhaps a wonderful kayak day tour with Ocean River Sports. But then there’s the not so well known… Victoria and Vancouver Island have some award winning, scenic and downright tasty wineries. (more…)
