Victoria BC hotel chain CEO Mandy Farmer, multitasking at home

Mandy Farmer multitasking at home

Hot on the heels of my secrets to success blog post, here’s a random smattering of shortcuts and tricks of the trade that I often employ to help me get the most out of my day. Please note some of these are desperate measures and are not to be used daily!

For instance, the first one – Dry Shampoo – should only be used on occasions when you are really pressed for time or just can’t stand the thought of wash, rinse, repeat, blow-dry, style, hairspray routine. Just sprinkle this dry powder on the roots of your hair and voila! No need to shower, but maybe an extra layer of deodorant wouldn’t hurt. ...read more on time saving ideas

Plowed road on Vancouver Island BC

Thank heavens for plows

With all the bad weather we have experienced in BC this winter, it’s time to take a moment to recognize the efforts of those people that look after us during the storms.

BC Hydro is a prime example.  Crews work 16 hour shifts during the wind and snow storms to restore power when outages occur.   And while I am sure they would all rather be home safe and sound with their families, they always show up and stay until all power is restored.  They have been especially busy on Vancouver Island and the lower mainland this week as winds gusting up to 100km per hours were downing trees and causing multiple power outages. ..read more about the folks who take care of us

What Makes a Good Employer

Friday, January 13th, 2012
John Espley Business Development Manager Accent Inns Victoria BC Hotel Chain

John offers his opinion on what makes a good employer

Recently  a chamber of commerce member, Mark Mawhinney,  and I were discussing  what it means to be successful in business and we got onto the subject of what makes a good employer? We  agreed that business success is more than just making money. Every entrepreneur hopes to get a good return on their investment but supporting their community,  gaining respect from employees and peers are also key factors on the list. Our conclusion was that the successful  business leaders/employers  we’ve met are the ones that not only have achieved the goals listed above but also have a sincere desire to offer employees opportunities to grow professionally and personally.  ....read more about what makes a good employer

Victoria bc hotel can help relieve christmas stress

Don't let Christmas stress you out, plan ahead

The Holiday Season is over, it’s time to reflect on both the good and maybe “not so good” of the season.  It brings to mind some of life’s lessons that I learned recently.

Just before Christmas I paid a call on Marlin Travel in Broadmead Village Shopping Centre.  As we were discussing plans for Christmas, Kathryn shared her “Secret to Success”.  After the previous Christmas, she purchased her 2011 calendar, opened it to December 2011 and wrote in big letters “Remember Last Christmas”.  I was fascinated. ....read more about planning ahead for christmas

Terry Farmer founder of the BC hotel chain excited over Accent Inns awesome success

Wow, what a year 2011 was for the Accent Inn team.

The year began with us launching the first ever hotel rewards  for Pets, the “Pet Fee Free” card back in March. The response had people  talking about it online from all over North America (not just Canada). Next, one of our Vancouver Airport  team members, Zully, won a Tourism Vancouver award for his service. We went from the excitement for Zully  to  our founder, Terry Farmer, being awarded Tourism Victoria`s first ever Lifetime Member award, which really put a spring in our steps. ....read more stories about 2011

What a Week for Accent Inns Team Members!

Friday, October 28th, 2011
Mandy Farmer, President & CEO of Accent Inns BC hotel group

Mandy Farmer, not only contributes her time but supports her staff

We don’t usually create a list such as this but this has been an extra exciting week for several of our Accent Inn team members. We just had to talk about it!

Katie Bahnsen, General Manager of our Kamloops hotel, is the current president of the Kamloops Accommodation Association. The Kamloops hoteliers joined together in a membership campaign and  donated $5 per occupied room on August 1  to the ICCH Wish Fund.  Katie had the wonderful honor on behalf of the Association to  present a cheque for $9102 to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation. The donated funds will go towards the Intensive Care Unit at RIH.

“It’s such an incredible feeling to work for an organization that supports its staff and encourages community involvement”

Chris Browne, General Manager of the Accent Inn Vancouver Airport hotel, has been nominated for a Richmond Chamber of Commerce Business Leadership Award. Considering his efforts to support the community through Rotary and other groups, we certainly feel the recognition is well deserved. ... more about the awards for the Accent Inns Team
