The much anticipated second film in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit Trilogy has arrived in time to reap box office gold much the way the previous films based on Tolkien’s works have. The film continues the adventure started in the previous film and finds the band of adventurers chased by a pack of Orcs and faced with the deadly and dark Mirkwood Forest as they attempt to reach The Lonely Mountain in time. Recently my wife and I traveled to beautiful Anaheim California to cover the 2013 Blizzcon Convention. The convention sold out online in moments and drew fans of Blizzard Entertainment from around the world for a weekend of news, panels, previews, music, Cosplay, and more. Those who were not able to get into the convention were able to follow along via DirecTV or through online streaming which could be purchased from the company. (more…)
Being used to movies in high-definition with surround sound on a wide-screen, I wondered in advance if it would be possible to follow and enjoy a movie without sound or colour.
I saw the movie in a quaint old-fashioned theatre in Sidney BC, with a small screen and a poor viewing angle. The tall man in front of me blocked part of the screen and I did not think I would be able to follow the plot that was so dependent upon facial expressions and the occasional words spread across the screen.
