OK, how does a little hotel chain like Accent Inns combine our love of the cycling community, our fun loving style, our search for adventure (well most of us…) and our key value of community support? It’s easy. A prime example was two recent events we supported; The Banff Mountain Film Festival’s Radical Reels Tour and the Vancouver Island Outdoor Adventure Expo. (more…)

TripAdvisor Reviewers Have Done it Again!
It was pretty special when Accent Inns
Actually their customers have done it with submitting all those wonderful reviews. The little home grown, local BC hotel chain has received a 2012 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for every one of their 5 locations.
Why did they do so well for reviews? “It is really the awesome team behind the scenes that works so hard to give every customer a comfortable, fun and relaxing stay. We’ve recently gone through a re-branding process for Accent Inns and when we were taking that hard look at just what makes us special, different, we came to the conclusion that it’s our people. The fun new style you can see online and in our properties is a testament to the wonderfully relaxed and fun way our team members go about their jobs and interact with our guests.” Mandy Farmer, President & CEO Accent Inns. So here we are. Another Father’s day approaches. I know Mom’s rule the world and we wouldn’t be anywhere (or even here) without them but… Father’s day has a little different feeling about it. Ya, Ya I know your saying to yourself, He’s a father so of course he feels that way. Perhaps, but I think there’s more to it. I think mother’s day is rightfully about celebrating and thanking mother’s for their caring, their nurturing and giving us life. Science tells us there’s a special bond between a mother and child and I tend to agree. For a father that relationship is something to a certain extent that must be created. Of course father’s can be nurturing and have a bond to our children but scientifically mom’s the word. So Father’s day is a real privilege, an honor. This is just my opinion but let me elaborate… (more…)
Recently a chamber of commerce member, Mark Mawhinney, and I were discussing what it means to be successful in business and we got onto the subject of what makes a good employer? We agreed that business success is more than just making money. Every entrepreneur hopes to get a good return on their investment but supporting their community, gaining respect from employees and peers are also key factors on the list. Our conclusion was that the successful business leaders/employers we’ve met are the ones that not only have achieved the goals listed above but also have a sincere desire to offer employees opportunities to grow professionally and personally. Our Friends at the Sierra Club of BC have some great “green” gift ideas.
If your holiday tradition includes gift giving, here are some options to help you with your list while also helping the conservation efforts that give back to the wild places and species of B.C.
The holiday season is all about spending time with family. It’s also a great time to connect to the world around you, whether it’s decorating a tree that fills your house with the scent of the forest, celebrating the winter solstice or sledding in the snow. (more…)
When it comes to success I sure don’t have all the answers, so I reached out to people who I think are very successful to get their take on this topic. But, before you read any further, the first and absolutely most important step to take when it comes to success is to define it. Success could mean giving up all your worldly belongings and meditating on top of a mountain, or finding that gorgeous trophy husband who spends his entire day cooking, cleaning and eagerly anticipating your arrival. It’s all in how you define it. Here are a few secrets from successful people in my life: (more…)
We don’t usually create a list such as this but this has been an extra exciting week for several of our Accent Inn team members. We just had to talk about it!
Katie Bahnsen, General Manager of our Kamloops hotel, is the current president of the Kamloops Accommodation Association. The Kamloops hoteliers joined together in a membership campaign and donated $5 per occupied room on August 1 to the ICCH Wish Fund. Katie had the wonderful honor on behalf of the Association to present a cheque for $9102 to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation. The donated funds will go towards the Intensive Care Unit at RIH.
“It’s such an incredible feeling to work for an organization that supports its staff and encourages community involvement”
Chris Browne, General Manager of the Accent Inn Vancouver Airport hotel, has been nominated for a Richmond Chamber of Commerce Business Leadership Award. Considering his efforts to support the community through Rotary and other groups, we certainly feel the recognition is well deserved. (more…)
