It’s Families First with FSI BC

FSIBC 2013 Naramata conference welcome signFSIBC 2013 Conference

This is the first year Accent Inns has supported the Family Support Institute of BC as part of our InnAid program, but you’d think that this relationship has been in place for years.

Angela Clancy & her daughter Hanna at FSI BC headquarters

I first met Angela Clancy, Executive Director for FSI BC, at an internet conference and then again a chamber of commerce premiers luncheon. Not that common do I run into not-profit representatives at the more “high-level corporate” events. But then again Angela and the Family Support Institute are not all that common. Their drive to gain support for families with disabilities is unending and has gained incredible awareness in the “inner circles”. That doesn’t mean they are supported as they could or should be but they sure won’t stop until they are.

Karen at the Vancouver Island Outdoor Expo

OK, how does a little hotel chain like Accent Inns combine our love of the cycling community, our fun loving style, our search for adventure (well most of us…) and our key value of community support? It’s easy. A prime example was two recent events we supported; The Banff Mountain Film Festival’s Radical Reels Tour and the Vancouver Island Outdoor Adventure Expo. (more…)

For Immediate Release

TripAdvisor Reviewers Have Done it Again!

It was pretty special when Accent Inns announced that all five Accent Inn hotels around the province had received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2011. Can you believe they’ve done it again!

Actually their customers have done it with submitting all those wonderful reviews. The little home grown,  local BC hotel chain has received a 2012 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for every one of their 5 locations.

Why did they do so well for reviews? “It is really the awesome team behind the scenes that works so hard to give every  customer a comfortable, fun and relaxing stay. We’ve recently gone through a re-branding process for Accent Inns and when we were taking that hard look at just what makes us special, different, we came to the conclusion that it’s our people. The fun new style you can see online and in our properties is a testament to the wonderfully relaxed and fun way our team members go about their jobs and interact with our guests.” Mandy Farmer, President & CEO Accent Inns. Father’s Day Reflections

Friday, June 15th, 2012

fathers day Victoria BCSo here we are. Another Father’s day approaches. I know Mom’s rule the world and we wouldn’t be anywhere (or even here) without them but… Father’s day  has a little different feeling about it. Ya, Ya  I know your saying to yourself, He’s a father so of course he feels that way. Perhaps, but I think there’s more to it. I think mother’s day is rightfully about celebrating and thanking mother’s for their caring, their nurturing and giving us life. Science tells us there’s a special bond between a mother and child and I tend to agree. For a father that relationship is something to a certain extent that must be created. Of course father’s can be nurturing and have a bond to our children but scientifically mom’s the word. So Father’s day is a real privilege, an honor. This is just my opinion but let me elaborate… (more…)

What Makes a Good Employer

Friday, January 13th, 2012
John Espley Business Development Manager Accent Inns Victoria BC Hotel Chain

John offers his opinion on what makes a good employer

Recently  a chamber of commerce member, Mark Mawhinney,  and I were discussing  what it means to be successful in business and we got onto the subject of what makes a good employer? We  agreed that business success is more than just making money. Every entrepreneur hopes to get a good return on their investment but supporting their community,  gaining respect from employees and peers are also key factors on the list. Our conclusion was that the successful  business leaders/employers  we’ve met are the ones that not only have achieved the goals listed above but also have a sincere desire to offer employees opportunities to grow professionally and personally.  (more…)

Give the Gift of Green

View from Vancouver Island in Winter by John Espley

We want to make sure and protect such views

Our Friends at the Sierra Club of BC have some great “green” gift ideas.

If your holiday tradition includes gift giving, here are some options to help you with your list while also helping the conservation efforts that give back to the wild places and species of B.C.

The holiday season is all about spending time with family. It’s also a great time to connect to the world around you, whether it’s decorating a tree that fills your house with the scent of the forest, celebrating the winter solstice or sledding in the snow.  (more…)

Secrets to Success

don't tell anyone the secrets to success

sssshhh it's a secret

When it comes to success I sure don’t have all the answers, so I reached out to people who I think are very successful to get their take on this topic. But, before you read any further, the first and absolutely most important step to take when it comes to success is to define it.  Success could mean giving up all your worldly belongings and meditating on top of a mountain, or finding that gorgeous trophy husband who spends his entire day cooking, cleaning and eagerly anticipating your arrival.  It’s all in how you define it.  Here are a few secrets from successful people in my life:  (more…)
