Recently a chamber of commerce member, Mark Mawhinney, and I were discussing what it means to be successful in business and we got onto the subject of what makes a good employer? We agreed that business success is more than just making money. Every entrepreneur hopes to get a good return on their investment but supporting their community, gaining respect from employees and peers are also key factors on the list. Our conclusion was that the successful business leaders/employers we’ve met are the ones that not only have achieved the goals listed above but also have a sincere desire to offer employees opportunities to grow professionally and personally. ....read more about what makes a good employer

Secrets to Success
Monday, November 28th, 2011When it comes to success I sure don’t have all the answers, so I reached out to people who I think are very successful to get their take on this topic. But, before you read any further, the first and absolutely most important step to take when it comes to success is to define it. Success could mean giving up all your worldly belongings and meditating on top of a mountain, or finding that gorgeous trophy husband who spends his entire day cooking, cleaning and eagerly anticipating your arrival. It’s all in how you define it. Here are a few secrets from successful people in my life: read more to learn the "secrets to success"
What a Week for Accent Inns Team Members!
Friday, October 28th, 2011We don’t usually create a list such as this but this has been an extra exciting week for several of our Accent Inn team members. We just had to talk about it!
Katie Bahnsen, General Manager of our Kamloops hotel, is the current president of the Kamloops Accommodation Association. The Kamloops hoteliers joined together in a membership campaign and donated $5 per occupied room on August 1 to the ICCH Wish Fund. Katie had the wonderful honor on behalf of the Association to present a cheque for $9102 to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation. The donated funds will go towards the Intensive Care Unit at RIH.
“It’s such an incredible feeling to work for an organization that supports its staff and encourages community involvement”
Chris Browne, General Manager of the Accent Inn Vancouver Airport hotel, has been nominated for a Richmond Chamber of Commerce Business Leadership Award. Considering his efforts to support the community through Rotary and other groups, we certainly feel the recognition is well deserved. ... more about the awards for the Accent Inns Team
What Father’s Day means to us Dads
Friday, June 17th, 2011This weekend is Father’s day. Last year I presented a blog post about the top 10 things a father and daughter could do together. This year I thought I’d offer some insights, my observations on what effect being a father has on a fella and in my opinion, the most important thing Fathers can do for their children.
First off let me give away a secret, dispel a myth, breakdown the facade that us men put forth (sorry guys). You may see us as macho men, big strong guys that can build anything or tear anything down, the creators of life’s inventions, the leaders of men, captains of industry, masters of our domains and the heads of the household (ok I was pushing it on that last one…). In truth we are at our very best , pushed to achieve, most vulnerable and most satisfied when we are known as “Dad”. Now I know some of you may scoff at this notion, believe that I exaggerate but alas I have real proof. ...read more on the effects of fathers day
The Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon Command recognizes Accent Inns
Tuesday, November 9th, 2010
Dave Sinclair Pres BC/Yukon Command presents Accent Inns recognition plaque. John Espley received on behalf.
For several years now Accent Inns has been a supporter of The Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon Command. This past weekend the Accent Inn BC hotel chain was honored with a plaque recognizing our partnership. Mr. Dave Sinclair, President of The Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon, presented John Espley on behalf of Accent Inns with award and several kind words at the legions Britannia branch (very close to the Accent Inn Victoria hotel). Why is it important that Accent Inns works with such a group…..
The Royal Canadian Legion is a very special organization in that it has not only a long history but serves a wide and diversified role in our communities. The first thing that may come to mind is veteran’s services and the poppy campaign. For the past 81 Years, The Royal Canadian Legion has been devoted to caring for Canada’s veterans and their families and working with current serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces by providing: Veterans Transition Program, Military Family Resource Centers, Overseas Blankets of Hope for Injured Personnel, Support for the Troops Morale Fund, Government Advocacy, Acts of Remembrance. ......read more about The Royal Canadian Legion
Ice Cream plus a little effort equals a smile
Tuesday, August 17th, 2010You don’t need a truck and a catchy little tune to hand out ice cream and make people smile. My community relations work for Accent Inns is one of the most rewarding and wonderful things I do. Recently during a very warm day here in Victoria, I had the opportunity to volunteer with several other gentlemen and serve ice cream to a large number of seniors and disabled residents at a local Hospital. Every year a good friend of mine named Stephen Godfrey, a member of Haida Lodge, a local Masonic lodge, organizes fellow freemasons to donate and serve ice cream to patients in the extended and acute care wards of a local hospital.
