Go horse or go home?

Tuesday, April 1st, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE       APRIL 1, 2014

bbyEquip rooms for horses, BC hotel group says, and lower the stress of separation

VICTORIA, BC – Accent Inns is once again at the forefront of innovation in the highly-competitive world of hospitality, with the addition of one more offering to their already-specialized services: equi-accommodation, aka the provision of rooms for people and horses, together. For many years, the BC-based, family-owned hotel group catered to guests travelling with their pets, their bicycles and motorcycles. Now, horses – whether for show, racing, riding or just companionship – will be shown the same outstanding service that travellers have come to count on at Accent Inns since 1986. (more…)

Great Concerts & Events

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014

rr posterThis past weekend I had the fun of attending the Banff Mountain Film Festivals Radical Reels world tour presentation. Accent Inns partnered with the Sierra Club of BC to bring this event to Victoria. As with previous years the films did not disappoint. The audience was either laughing at the gags, saying oooohhh to the incredible scenery or ooouuucchhh as some of the folks in the film didn’t fair so well when meeting with a tree or handrail. Motorcycle Friendly Hotel Manager Races in the 46th Baja 1000 #5

Thursday, February 20th, 2014

rm 675-paulOur chase trucks start to meet up now as the 2 in the south head north and meet the west coast truck.  Around 8pm we all meet on the side of the road at race mile 670.  Paul is ready to get on the relay bike and does so around 930pm.  Mladen has had a good section.  A small mechanical problem when the fuel line cracked and the bike stopped but he was able to make the repair quickly with the tools he had.  The bike has been going for 22 hours straight now.  Pretty amazing that has been the only issue. Motorcycle Friendly Hotel Manager Races in the 46th Baja 1000 #4

Thursday, February 13th, 2014

group shot1With pre running all complete and only a few days until race day, it was time to organize our plan.  All riders finished practicing their sections without injury, goal #1.  We would have 5 vehicles on race day chasing the 3 race bikes.  Each vehicle would have a spare bike on board that parts could be robbed off if needed.  Other items on board would include satellite phones, food, water, tools, first aid kits, a spare rider, etc.  Basically we would have 2 trucks servicing the bikes in the centre of the Baja peninsula and east coast.  The other 3 trucks would take care of the bikes down in the southern portion and on the west coast. Desert Camp Out

Watch out for those scorpion’s

With a week or so to go till race day, the rest of the team showed up.  The adventure really got exciting when 5 of us went to pre run race mile 385 to 525.  The day started great as usual, until we entered 10 miles of 3 foot deep silt beds.  A fine sand like substance that just floats in the air, clogging and killing motors in cars and bikes.  At race mile 430, my bike decided it had had enough.  2pm and David and I are sitting in the desert with a broken bike, 80 miles from the nearest accessible road.  Another racer comes along and we ask him to let Mladen ( another one of our guys ahead ) know we are stuck.  A few hours later, Mladen shows up and we try for hours to figure the bike out.  Nothing works. 2013 Russ Hays / Accent Inns Bastion Square Grand Prix

Wednesday, June 5th, 2013

P1000057What an awesome day it was in Victoria on Sunday June 2nd. The Bastion Square Grand Prix is the final race in the Robert Cameron Law cycling series, part of the Victoria Cycling festival. Accent Inns along with our friends and team partners at Russ Hays were proud to sponsor the final big race.

The racing at all levels was exciting… even the Tim Horton’s timbits challenge saw the kids doing a whole lap of the course and still sprinting to the finish.

The level of intensity and endurance was spectacular to watch from all the competitors. It was impressive to watch the high school races as you could easily see some up and coming serious cycle racers. (more…)
