Victoria Hotel get less rain than Vancouver!

Victoria offers great weather

FACT:

Victoria gets less than half as much rain as Vancouver!!

According to the Weather Network, the total annual precipitation (for 2009) is just 557 mm in Victoria, compared to Vancouver with 1,272 mm of rainfall.  That’s a pretty significant difference!   The reason for the dryer conditions is because of the rain shadow effect of the nearby Olympic Mountains in Washington State.  This also means that our Victoria hotel gets more sunshine than surrounding areas. With 2,223 hours of sun annually, Victoria is one of the sunniest places in British Columbia, and gets more sunshine than most other cities in Canada except those in the southern Prairies.

Weather report is better for Victoria!

As an avid golfer (and wannabe weather gal), I can vouch for the numbers above.  I live about 30 minutes up Island and many times I’ve been ready to call off the golf game because it’s raining at my place.  But more often than not, it’s dry in Victoria.

So attention Vancouverites  - the next time you get tired of all the dreary, rainy winter days  – take a quick getaway to Victoria.  Chances are, you’ll be able to leisurely stroll the quaint streets of Victoria, sip on a latte and soak up the atmosphere  – all  without your brolly!

Accent Inns BC Hotel Sales team heads north by RV

Recently the Accent Inns sales team, Donna Price, Helen Wright, Julia Fraser and Kim Jones set out on a 3,000 km journey to re-position 2 Fraserway RV camper trucks from Vancouver to Whitehorse, making sales calls along the way.

First of all we would like to thank Fraserway RV for setting us up in their lovely brand new truck and campers, our homes away from home!  The 2011 Ford 450 Supercab trucks were not only spacious and comfortable but they were very easy for us large truck novice gals to drive! (and the talk of the towns as we rolled in.) (...click here to learn more about their Northern Adventure)

Mandy Farmer plays in the mud at Power to play 2010

Confession: I like mud.

Cracked ribs, a paramedic visit for a possible concussion, an infected rope burn, and day after day of sore tender muscles spanning the entire body (legs, arms, abs… even fingers?!)… all a result of almost 5 hours of mud soaked agony at the Power to Play Adventure race on May 2nd.
Now why on earth did we do this?.......read more

Power to play 2010 Accent Inn Dusters

Power to play 2010 Accent Inn Dusters

Several months ago Mandy Farmer, the President of Accent Inns put the word out that she was looking for volunteers to participate in the Power to Play adventure race. The race is in support of the great work done by the Power to Be organization with challenges designed by Anthony Bishop who also designs for the TV shows Survivor and the Amazing race. Always having community spirit and a sense of adventure it didn’t take long for several volunteers to come forth from the Head office staff and so was born the Accent Inn “Dusters”. The intrepid volunteers (or sacrifices depending on your perspective) were Dave Splawski, Chris Knight, John Espley and our “fearless leader” Mandy Farmer. Lupita & Canuck in Business Class

Lupita & Canuck in Business Class

I am writing this from Canada where I have returned safe and sound – well maybe not quite sound.  I picked up a stomach bug at the end of the trip and so the last few days weren’t that much fun.  However, the doctor in Hong Kong gave me the right drugs and I am now back to 100% (or as close as a duck can come to 100%). (.....more on Canuck Ducks epic adventure)
