Another Kind of Attraction – Treasure Hunting in BC

garage sale

If you’ve ever fancied yourself to be a bit like Indiana Jones searching for ancient artifacts or Jacques Cousteau combing the ocean floor for pirate treasure, you may be interested in a slightly more modern version of these activities – the garage sale.

That’s right. Today’s garage and yard sales are the way that modern urbanites get an opportunity to study both the current and past lifestyles through the discarded treasures of their fellow man (and more often their fellow woman).

When visiting another city, there are plenty of opportunities to see the place as the city officials wish you to – tourist attractions, scenic walks, restaurants and hotels – but attending a garage sale gives you the opportunity to view those city dwellers (the locals)  in their natural habitat. You may even get a glimpse of their private gardens, their pets and their friends. ...read more about the fun of checking out garage sales

SOS Children’s Village Johannesburg

Thursday, August 16th, 2012

New PictureBack in July, Donna Price ( Regional Sales Manager Sports and Groups for Accent Inns)  and a few friends had a special opportunity to visit the SOS Children’s Village, Ennerdale just outside of Johannesburg. This is a look at their trip and experiences….

It was a beautifully kept place for almost 200 children who come from different circumstances (orphaned or lack of family care). They integrate the children in the community in Schooling, projects and prepare the kids to be self sufficient once they leave the village. The children were well taken care of in a home-style setting. In addition to the children, they also have small homes for the retired house mothers or “aunties”. We met a couple of them – one 62 years and one 86 years old. ... read more on the SOS childrens visit

Accent Inns 3Spot

Eek! I’m so excited! This week, we officially launched our new brand and it’s so electrifying because it completely resonates with who we are. We are so pumped about it I wanted to share with you the story of how it came to be.

Late last year we were just finishing our massive exterior renovations at all 5 Accent Inns when it occurred to us that this was a much needed rebirth for our 26 year old company. Realizing this opportunity, we felt the time was right to take a look at how the marketplace viewed our brand, because if we ever were going to make any changes, this would be the time. ...read more on why?how?

For Immediate release

Taking a good look into the mirror

Travelling in British Columbia this summer never looked so good

August  07, 2012, Victoria, BC – Accent Inns’ easy-to-spot, iconic blue roofs haven’t changed, but just about everything beneath them has– from the renovated exteriors, updates to the interiors of all five properties —  and a very cool change in the  brand  image and story.

Now sporting refreshed exteriors in shades of, taupe, grey and green, entrance pillars refinished in natural stone and glass balconies to open up the views, Accent Inns has a warmer, more welcoming West Coast feel and is working harder than ever to live their new “stay local, stay real” tag line.

“As we finished our renovations late last year, we felt it was time to check in and see what our potential customers thought of Accent Inns,” says Mandy Farmer, president of Accent Inns. “The focus group results were shocking. Going by our name and look, many people thought we were an American owned run of the mill chain. For a company that is owned and operated by a BC family, we were heart broken. It was time to become better at telling and living our brand story.” ...read more on what's changed

How To Eat Breakfast In Your PJs

Tuesday, July 10th, 2012

I have a kitchenFirst of all, I need to make something perfectly clear. I DO NOT COOK! The only reason that I have a kitchen is that it came with the house. It is full of cooking machines that simply confuse me. So, given this information, you may wonder why I am telling you about the kitchenettes at Accent Inns.

Well – I actually like to book a room with a kitchenette when I travel. Not because I am planning to create gourmet meals in my room BUT because I like to have fresh milk for my coffee, yoghurt for my breakfast and occasionally I like to make toast and fry an egg. In fact, I prefer to drink my coffee and eat my breakfast in my room while still in my PJs. ...read more on the advantages of a kitchenette

The story that he is telling is that of the people of West Papua New Guinea, previously known as Irian Jaya. ...read more about Jeremy
