Camosun Chargers begin second half of the season

The Camosun College Chargers men’s volleyball team has shaken off the holiday rust and is set to start the second half of the BCCAA season with an Island Rivalry match up against the VIU Mariners this Friday evening in Nanaimo. The second and final round of matches in the 2010-11 Island Rivalry volleyball series is sure to be a hot contest and promises to deliver a great evening of volleyball action.

To augment the team’s training and development, the Chargers traveled to Kelowna over the holiday break to take part in a three-day training workshop which included a number of top teams from BC and Alberta.  “We wanted to accomplish three things with our trip to UBCO over the holidays,” explained Coach Parkinson. “We wanted to get the rust off, to continue to evolve our style of play and learn about ourselves in different situations, and to have fun.  In my mind we accomplished all three.” ...more on the chargers 2011 season

Restore Tour – it’s about the children

picture of a child on the restore tour

The Restore tour is all about a better life for the children

Recently Accent Inns had the opportunity to help support a group of young people travelling around the world to tell their story of survival. A charitable group called Watoto is helping the Restore tour travel around the nation and thanks to an old friend bringing this to my attention, Accent Inns was pleased to support their stop in Victoria B.C. The Accent Inn Victoria hotel staff kindly donated rooms for this group during their visit.

“the children were so polite and very, very friendly” Eileen Mettes, General Manager Accent Inn Victoria hotel.

These children are from Uganda. For more than 20 years, the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) rebel group has waged a ruthless ‘spiritual’ crusade of murder, mutilation, abduction and destruction against the people of Northern Uganda. Unimaginable atrocities have been inflicted upon an entire generation of children. These children have seen and done things no adult, no human being should see or do. ......read more about the children of the restore tour

Karen England, Sales Manager for Accent Inns finishing the Victoria Marathon

The Marathon began  in September 1980 with a single 26.2 mile race and now offers five different events for all ages. What other Marathon can boast a finish line as scenic as Victoria’s inner harbour in front of our famous  historic Parliament Buildings (actually it’s the legislative building but people know it by the “other” name).  I know everyone at the Accent Inn Victoria really enjoys meeting people from all over that come to run in our “famous” marathon. The race attracts people come from all over the globe  including some famous Kenyan participants.  One of the folks running the race this years was Accent Inns own Karen England. We are all very proud of Karen , Accent Inns Regional Sales Manager  Victoria.  She did what many of us would like to do but never seem to get around too. Well done Karen!

Power to play 2010 Accent Inn Dusters

Power to play 2010 Accent Inn Dusters

Several months ago Mandy Farmer, the President of Accent Inns put the word out that she was looking for volunteers to participate in the Power to Play adventure race. The race is in support of the great work done by the Power to Be organization with challenges designed by Anthony Bishop who also designs for the TV shows Survivor and the Amazing race. Always having community spirit and a sense of adventure it didn’t take long for several volunteers to come forth from the Head office staff and so was born the Accent Inn “Dusters”. The intrepid volunteers (or sacrifices depending on your perspective) were Dave Splawski, Chris Knight, John Espley and our “fearless leader” Mandy Farmer.
