Labour Day and Putting the ‘Accent’ on Sales

The inspiration was initially a strike in the printing industry in Toronto two years earlier, where workers demanded a shorter working week. Marches, or parades, to support the strikers became an annual demonstration of solidarity in many cities across Canada, pressurizing the prime minister to recognize it as a national holiday. Movies Near Accent Inn locations In British Columbia

hately castleI was thinking the other day about all the movies that have been made in B.C. At the time I was watching the Disney made-for-TV movie The Descendants, which was shot in Victoria and excited to see scenes shot inside and outside Hatley Castle at Royal Roads University, where I used to work. Hatley Castle has been used as a location for over 20 movies and television programs including recent Netflix favourites Witches of East End, and The Killing. (more…)

Environmental Education Is Growing

Sierra Club BC is branching out.

For the recent 2014-2015 school year they had a brand-new education team. There is a long history and strong foundation of environmental education to build on, and this season brought new energy and ideas to the programs. Last year they visited 230 classrooms across BC. This means that they directly engaged over 5500 students. (more…)

It’s About How To Travel!

planes train textI was writing a recent blog post on movies shot on location in B.C. and for some inexplicable reason the 1987 movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles came to mind. The one, starring Steve Martin and John Candy, where Martin, an advertising executive travelling home for Thanksgiving, gets bumped from first class to coach and has to sit next to and over-friendly, over-helpful, shower curtain ring salesmen played by Candy. The ALS Cycle of Hope was founded four years ago by Cindy Lister. Personally affected by ALS, Lister lost her dad to this devastating disease. Propelled to support other families going through this difficult journey, Lister along with co-founder Robin Farell and a group of 12 cyclists, ride across BC on a seven day cycling trip to raise money and awareness for ALS. Their mission is to raise $80,000 for ALS research and services.
