Hi there, Victoria Accent Inns here. I’m totally lucky having 4 other “sister” hotels around BC (coincidentally also all named Accent Inns…) and it looks like in just a few days (May 1st is the due date) I’ll have to get used to having a new cousin around, a new Victoria Hotel. Me and my siblings are really proud of our great rooms, good service and totally fun attitude but this new family member…. well she’s different. (more…)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 1, 2014
VICTORIA, BC – Accent Inns is once again at the forefront of innovation in the highly-competitive world of hospitality, with the addition of one more offering to their already-specialized services: equi-accommodation, aka the provision of rooms for people and horses, together. For many years, the BC-based, family-owned hotel group catered to guests travelling with their pets, their bicycles and motorcycles. Now, horses – whether for show, racing, riding or just companionship – will be shown the same outstanding service that travellers have come to count on at Accent Inns since 1986. (more…)

This past weekend I had the fun of attending the Banff Mountain Film Festivals Radical Reels world tour presentation. Accent Inns partnered with the Sierra Club of BC to bring this event to Victoria. As with previous years the films did not disappoint. The audience was either laughing at the gags, saying oooohhh to the incredible scenery or ooouuucchhh as some of the folks in the film didn’t fair so well when meeting with a tree or handrail. Anybody that knows me well is very aware that I am easily distracted when I see something shiny. I love colour and light and form and gold and silver and all things bright and beautiful. And that is why I am looking forward to the Vancouver Island Bead and Jewelry Show that is being held on March 1-2, 2014 at the Stellys Fairgrounds in Saanichton. (more…)
With pre running all complete and only a few days until race day, it was time to organize our plan. All riders finished practicing their sections without injury, goal #1. We would have 5 vehicles on race day chasing the 3 race bikes. Each vehicle would have a spare bike on board that parts could be robbed off if needed. Other items on board would include satellite phones, food, water, tools, first aid kits, a spare rider, etc. Basically we would have 2 trucks servicing the bikes in the centre of the Baja peninsula and east coast. The other 3 trucks would take care of the bikes down in the southern portion and on the west coast. (more…)
With a week or so to go till race day, the rest of the team showed up. The adventure really got exciting when 5 of us went to pre run race mile 385 to 525. The day started great as usual, until we entered 10 miles of 3 foot deep silt beds. A fine sand like substance that just floats in the air, clogging and killing motors in cars and bikes. At race mile 430, my bike decided it had had enough. 2pm and David and I are sitting in the desert with a broken bike, 80 miles from the nearest accessible road. Another racer comes along and we ask him to let Mladen ( another one of our guys ahead ) know we are stuck. A few hours later, Mladen shows up and we try for hours to figure the bike out. Nothing works. (more…)
