2012 Cycling Series Victoria BC

Specialized Russ Hay's Time Trials 2012

Time Trials route along Dallas Rd

Victoria BC Cycling Festival racesWhat a weekend! June 1-3 here in Victoria BC we enjoyed the Robert Cameron Law Corporation Cycling Series. The weekend began with the Specialized / Russ Hay’s Time Trials. It was a breezy and slightly chilly evening but the view from Victoria’s Dallas Rd. trumped the weather and the cyclists didn’t disappoint when it came to giving it their all for the crowd. This event has each rider challenge only themselves. many even have specialized time trials only bikes and watching them dawn the sleek aerodynamic helmets brought back memories of Star Wars. Unlike Star Wars there was no Darth Vader to fear, only the clock.Darth Vader like Bike helmet ...read more on the races

Terry Farmer knows the power of helping people

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Terry Farmer Founder & Chairman, Accent Inns

Below is a reprint of the Victoria Chamber Awards Gala program where Friday April 27, Terry Farmer was given the Lifetime Achievement Award.

After all, if he hadn’t offered to lend a hand to help his father and partner build the Chateau Victoria he might never have realized just how much more fun he could have in hospitality rather than a career in banking, property management or construction.

Anyone who knows Terry, knows that he isn’t content to rest on his laurels. Positive change has been a staple of his life. Terry’s advice to the graduates of Royal Roads at their 2007 Convocation, “… as life moves on over the years do not hesitate to change your area of work should opportunities arise. When they do you should do your due diligence and then strike out quickly, especially if you have a chance to get out on your own and become an entrepreneur. I did this 21 years ago and it was the most thrilling and challenging stage of my career (aside from getting married of course).” Read more about Accent Inns Founder

Camosun Chargers Win Awards

Monday, April 16th, 2012
CHARGERSLOGOblue_whitebackgroundLast Thursday night I had the wonderful opportunity to attend and present at the Camosun College Chargers annual awards night. As with previous years it was a great way to review the incredible year both the teams and student athletes had. It was mentioned that Accent Inns has sponsored the Chargers for 11 years now. Wow! What an honour it has been for our company and certainly for myself (I think I’ve only missed one of the awards banquets).
Once again the MC’s for the evening were Mira Laurence and Jordan Cunningham of CTV Vancouver Island. Not only do these two news and sports media folks know their Chargers but I must say….Billy Crystal watch out, they are headed for the Oscars. They had us laughing all night long. But of course the night wasn’t just about laughs and reviewing the past season but to celebrate some of the awe inspiring efforts put in by the the students, the coaches and the teams as a whole. It should be noted that the Chargers have some of the most dedicated and caring  coaches anywhere. I’m glad we also had the chance to applaud the behind the scenes staff. Special thanks from Accent Inns go to  Graham Matthews (Athletic Director) and  Bonita Joe (Marketing & Communications Officer) for being so awesome to work with and for their sincere focus on helping the students achieve their goals. So read below for an excerpt from the Charger blog listing the many award winners and their achievements.

Jordan Elvedahl

This is a great re-post of the Chargers announcement.

Today, the Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC) and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) announced the 2011-2012 SIRC-CCAA Academic All-Canadian Award recipients and among the 162 student-athletes from across the nation who have achieved combined excellence in collegiate athletics and academics are Jordan Elvedahl and Caitlin Marshall from the Camosun College Chargers basketball program.

The SIRC-CCAA Academic All-Canadian award is the CCAA’s most prestigious student-athlete honour, epitomizing both organizations’ commitment to academic success and athletic achievement.  To achieve this award, recipients must attain academic honours at their institution and be named to his/her respective conference All-Star team.
An exceptional point guard and leader, second-year Jordan Elvedahl (Stelly’s) was Top 3 in assists in the league and averaged over 12 points per game.  Having earned a PACWEST 2nd Team All-Star for his athletic achievements, Jordan also posted top grades in Camosun’s Centre for Sport and Exercise Education – Exercise and Wellness Program to receive the Academic All-Canadian award.  Read more about Camosun Charger All-Canadians

Pardon My Striptease and Lilee-Jean

Friday, March 16th, 2012

Lilee-jean & Dad

This is a story that came to our attention. We just have to share it and  to make sure the cause is kept top-of-mind.

Lilee-Jean is a little girl diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a very aggressive brain cancer and has been undergoing surgery and chemo-therapy at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.

Her loving family is there for support but this child is lucky to have one very special man in her life – her father. Andrew Putt is a singer with the band Pardon My Striptease. Not only is he a talented musician (see the video) but he and his band have help raise tens of thousands of dollars for BC Children’s hospital. They even managed to get support from the well-known band NickelBack! Accent Inns has worked with BC Children’s for many years and we have seen so many families get incredible help and support from this very special hospital. We all owe the Band a huge thank you for their efforts and let’s wish Lilee-Jean and the other children all the strength in the world to overcome their illness.
