I love hanging baskets, they are so European. When the City of Victoria first started hanging flower-laden baskets from lamp posts throughout the downtown in 1937 it was rare to see these summer delights in North America. This year will be the 79th year visitors to this fine city will be treated to a floral display second to none – hanging baskets and Victoria are synonymous. This year 1,350 baskets will be hung up during the second week in June, each containing 25 plants and weighing around 20 kilograms. (more…)

Victoria Day is unique to Canada, nowhere else in the world do they celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday. It was first declared the Queen’s official birthday in 1845 and became the public holiday known as Victoria Day after her death in 1901. The day actually celebrates two Queen’s birthdays (Victoria’s actual birthday on May 24th) and Elizabeth II (it is by legislation her official birthday in Canada). It is always celebrated on the Monday prior to May 24th. This year Victoria Day will be on Monday May, 23rd. (more…)
I’m a huge fan of April Fool’s hoaxes as long as they are not cruel, dangerous or end up taking the time of any emergency services. The best hoaxes are those that have a grain of truth, or one could imagine being true. (more…)

It was a real pleasure and honor to attend the Kamloops BC, Mayors Gala for the Arts on Saturday January 30, 2016. Accent Inns was blessed with a nomination by the Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts and the Kamloops Symphony. The Gala itself was a fun and playful event with a Shakespearian forest theme with many of the attendees wearing beautiful masks. The event was MC’d by Actor Alan Corbishley and Mayor Peter Milobar. Alan stayed in character all night as “Bishleycor” and added lots of humor to the event. (more…)

Since last year, Bin 4 Burger Lounge owners Dan and Sarah Blackmore and Chef Michael Ringland have worked closely with Accent Inns president and CEO Mandy Farmer, finding common ground in their approach to business and love of good food while developing the new space. Farmer and the Blackmores share a common mindset when it comes to customer experience. The design of the new Bin 4 Burger Lounge took into consideration the needs of visitors, travelling for business or leisure. Extra power outlets are available at the seats in the lounge, which seats up to 30 guests. The bar is larger than the other two Bin 4 locations, providing individual seating for 16 guests, and both the restaurant and outdoor patio can accommodate larger groups of up to 20 guests. (more…)
Recently I had the awesome pleasure of being invited to the Canadian launch party for APTN’s newest cooking show, Moosemeat & Marmalade, here in Victoria BC. Previewing the first 2 episodes I came to the conclusion that this is far more than just a cooking show. Yes there was indeed some fabulous meals prepared by the London Chef Dan Hayes and bush cook Art Napolean but they also shared stories and knowledge about their culture, history and the landscapes they were in. To complete the entrée each episode is spiced with the perfect amount of humor. (more…)
December 11th will see the “cast and crew” of CHEK TV descend upon the Accent Inn in Victoria BC. Just like Santa’s Elves’ they will be working hard to to prepare and host the 20th annual CHEK Christmas Drive Thru.
You like grabbing a bite or a coffee at your local drive thru so why not make your donations that way too!
Where else will you find TV personalities and volunteers alike “hustling and bustling” around to unload your donations of goods for the Salvation Army. Sold everything in a garage sale?.. no worries cash donations are more than welcome, in fact a Salvation Army kettle will be on hand and it sure looks great to see it when it’s filled with bills!
Making the experience even better you’ll have the Salvation Army band serenading you with Christmas Carols. Rumor has it that this night is so special, Santa himself has scheduled an appearance! (why is it we never see Jim Beatty and Santa at the same time…..could it be..hmmmm?)
Please join us December 11th from 5 – 7pm at the Accent Inn at the corner of Blanshard and Cloverdale and help support those in need!
