Cycle of Hope for Families

2014 Cycle of Hope team

June 3, was the kick-off for the 2014 Cycle of Hope. This is the 3rd year for the event and the 3rd year Accent Inns has been honored to support this dedicated group of people. Started by Cindy Lister and Robin Farrell, the annual ride and associated events has raised over $50,000 for ALS research and support for the families dealing with the terrible disease.

It works well that we have Accent Inns in both Kamloops and Kelowna where we can help the team rest during their long ride. I (John Espley) was honored to attend the launch event and thanks to the Mayor of Victoria BC, Dean Fortin, and Jack Knox of the Times Colonist for speaking and running the event. We heard several speakers including founders Cindy Lister and Robin Farrell tell their story of how ALS effects families. What’s very special to me about this ride is that they are not only raising awareness and funds for research but also supporting the families of ALS patients.

Often we forget that although there may be one person suffering from the disease, the devastating

effects both financially and emotionally on the family members of the afflicted can be beyond understanding and beyond what we can or should expect anyone to have to

deal with. Even the “mountain man” can’t hold back tears when you hear the stories of those families.
