Wild About Whales
Leaked video footage smuggled out of Crystal Pool confirms Admiral Roger Girouard (retired) is secretly training an unidentified whale for Boys and Girls Club’s Whale Derby. After a successful launch in 2011 this unique fundraiser will see over 4500 tiny yellow plastic whales racing down the Gorge waterway on Saturday, June 9at 1pm.

The race is part of Wild About Whales, a free, fun, family event in Esquimalt Gorge Park held the same day from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased through Boys & Girls Clubs, one for $5, five for $20 or twenty-five for $100. Lucky owners of the numbers attached to the first six whales across the finish win one of six great prizes: $2200 WestJet voucher, patio set and heater, a cool bicycle, an iPad, $500 cash or a Fender acoustic guitar with lessons.
But for Roger Girouard, recently awarded Community Leader of the Year at the C-FAX Community Awards, and the Honorary Chair of Wild About Whales, helping kids is what inspires him. “I got involved in the annual fundraiser for Boys & Girls Clubs because young people in Victoria deserve the kind of opportunities that Boys & Girls Clubs provides. Now I can’t get enough of all this fin-tastic fun.” He declined comment when asked just how many whales he was coaching. He believes his whale coaching mirrors what Boys & Girls Clubs does for young people. “They give them the confidence to go out there and give it all they’ve got.”
