Give the Gift of Green

View from Vancouver Island in Winter by John Espley

We want to make sure and protect such views

Our Friends at the Sierra Club of BC have some great “green” gift ideas.

If your holiday tradition includes gift giving, here are some options to help you with your list while also helping the conservation efforts that give back to the wild places and species of B.C.

The holiday season is all about spending time with family. It’s also a great time to connect to the world around you, whether it’s decorating a tree that fills your house with the scent of the forest, celebrating the winter solstice or sledding in the snow.

To inspire young minds, Sierra Club is proud to recommend Caitlyn Vernon’s new book, “Nowhere Else on Earth: Standing Tall for the Great Bear Rainforest”. Filled with stunning images of the coastal rainforest, this beautiful book encourages young readers to think about what future they would like to live in. If you are already planning for 2012, Sierra Club Wilderness Calendars and Engagement Day Planners are a great way to bring in the New Year.

For a great stocking stuffer, our special edition Denman Island chocolate bars are available in plain or mint dark chocolate. Proceeds from the bars go towards the Flathead River Valley campaign.

You can always help Sierra Club BC speak up for BC’s wilderness by making a donation in someone’s name. Donations made before December 31, 2011 will help them meet their year-end campaign goals. This is a great time to donate – until December 31, 2011, up to $16,000 in new gifts will be matched.

To purchase books, calendars, or chocolate, please give us a call at 250-386-5255 ext. 228 or drop by their office at 304-733 Johnson St., Victoria. office is open 9-5 until December 22.

Remember every Sierra Club of BC member is entitled to a special rate at every Accent Inn in B.C. and a portion of every member room booked goes back to help support the Sierra Club.

“One of the best ways to remind ourselves of why we need to think green is to take a walk, a hike, a paddle or a snowshoe trip this winter. Even when you’re on a ski trip, have a look at the mountains and wilderness around the ski hill. We want to make sure and preserve such beautiful sites and eco-systems  not only for ourselves but more importantly for our children and grandchildren.”  John Espley, Business Development Manager, Accent Inns.

To all our friends at the Sierra Club of BC, the very best of the holidays.
