The Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon Command recognizes Accent Inns

Accent Inns BC Hotel receives Legion Recognition plaque presentation Nov 2010

Dave Sinclair Pres BC/Yukon Command presents Accent Inns recognition plaque. John Espley received on behalf.

For several years now Accent Inns has been a supporter of The Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon Command. This past weekend the Accent Inn BC hotel chain was honored with a plaque recognizing our partnership. Mr. Dave Sinclair, President of The Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon, presented John Espley on behalf of Accent Inns with award and several kind words at the legions Britannia branch (very close to the Accent Inn Victoria hotel). Why is it important that Accent Inns works with such a group…..

The Royal Canadian Legion is a very special organization in that it has not only a long history but serves a wide and diversified role in our communities. The first thing that may come to mind is veteran’s services and the poppy campaign. For the past 81 Years, The Royal Canadian Legion has been devoted to caring for Canada’s veterans and their families and working with current serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces by providing: Veterans Transition Program, Military Family Resource Centers, Overseas Blankets of Hope for Injured Personnel, Support for the Troops Morale Fund, Government Advocacy, Acts of Remembrance.

Along with all they do for service personnel the Legion serves another important role in our local communities. Within BC/Yukon Command, Legionnaires and the Ladies Auxiliary work tirelessly behind the scenes, striving to improve the quality of life for others. With quiet pride and unspoken humility, the work of the Legion and it’s members touches all citizens. The Legion within BC/Yukon Command contributes over $3 Million every year supporting health, social, educational and heritage programs, filling a void in essential community services. Activities include: Acts of Remembrance, Spinoza Bears for Sick Children, UBC Chair of Family Practice, Geriatric Nursing Bursaries, Medical Equipment/Furnishings, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Support for Community Food Banks, Community Charities.

Even our youth has support and a role to play within the Legion. Nurturing, supporting and guiding youth development will ensure civic responsibility is learned and understood. This understanding will resonate in the hearts and actions of the younger generation, as they symbolically accept the “Torch of Remembrance”. The Legion within BC/Yukon Command supports a vast array of youth leadership and development programs designed to embrace scholastic achievements, athletic pursuit, artistic initiative and civic responsibility such as: Cadets, Guides, Scouts and Youth Groups and Minor Sports, Encounters with Canada, Youth Leaders Remembrance Pilgrimages, Bursaries and Scholarships, Remembrance Poster, Essay and  Literary Contest, National Track and Field Championships, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Community Volunteerism and Youth Auxiliaries.

As you can see Accent Inns takes pride in working with and supporting The Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon command because they hold true many of the same values as does our company. Caring for those who serve, those in need and watching over our youth are some of the key “family values” that the  Accent Inn Victoria hotel chain founders and staff hold dear.

Remember that you too can support your local Legion by either donating to a cause or event they are running or even becoming a member. You don’t have to have to have served to be a member either. All are welcome just visit their membership page for details.

Finally, this November, join Accent Inns in remembering those who serve and those who gave. Wear a poppy, attend a ceremony and if you’re travelling , Show us your poppy at check-in and we’ll make a donation on your behalf as part of our poppy campaign.
